UPH Choir has successfully brought UPH's name to the world, achieving three gold medals at the Bali International Choir Festival (BICF) 2017, held on July 14-20, 2017. Despite their first time in joining BICF, UPH Choir has been rewarded 2 gold medals for the Folklore category as well as 1 gold metal for the Sacra Music category.

8 countries participated in BICF 2017, including Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and China. The competition held 17 categories ranging from ages, gender, music type, to music entertainment. UPH Choir entered into 2 categories, of which were Folklore and Sacra Music.

UPH Choir presented a number of classical choral work, namely "Exultate Deo" and "Ave Maria", under the Sacra Music category, and "Bubuy Bulan" as well as "Marencong-rencong" for the Folklore category.

This accomplishment is suprisingly pleasant as UPH Choir, whose members consisted of 2015 and 2016 students, had never performed in such a big event. UPH Choir Team has 30 members consisting of 9 sopranos, 8 altos, 7 bass, and 6 tenors.

"Initially, we joined the festival to test our team's performance capability to prepare ourselves for bigger competitions. Turns out, the result was beyond our expectation, and we managed to receive 3 gold medals. In fact, we've only been practicing within the short amount of time of only 3 months," said Irene Christiani, a student of Management 2014, Head of UPH Choir.

Surely, it wasn’t easy for the team in to prepare for the competition. In the middle of their packed schedules in campus, they would have had to practice intensively for 5 days a week, for a total of 3 months. Under the guidance of Tutu Sukendro, who has led UPH Choir since 2015, the UPH Choir has successfully achieved a number of accomplishments both national and internationally over the past few years.

Aside from competing, the participants of this event could also follow a number of activities such as choral education, and various social activities such as friendship concert, choir collaboration and gala concert. (fj)
